چکیده
The Australian spotted jellyfish Phyllorhiza punctata has been reported from several locations in the Mediterranean, but the present report is the first record from Turkish waters. Juveniles of the Erythrean alien shrimp scad, Alepes djedaba, were observed nestling among its tentacles. Possible vectors are mentioned.

Morphologic and molecular redescription of Catostylus mosaicus conservativus (Scyphozoa: Rhizostomeae: Catostylidae) from south-east Australia
Catostylus mosaicus (Quoy & Gaimard, 1824) is a rhizostome jellyfish endemic to eastern Australia. Originally described from Port Jackson (Sydney) in New South Wales (Quoy & Gaimard, 1824), the species is thought to range from Port Phillip (Melbourne) in Victoria to the Torres Strait (Kramp, 1965; Southcott, 1982), i.e. across three biogeographic boundaries. Given recent reports of multiple cry...

To some naturalists, Mastigias medusae in marine lakes, Palau, symbolize the evolutionary process (Faulkner, 1974). In the first scientific publication on marine lake Mastigias, Hamner & Hauri (1981) suggested that different long-distance horizontal migrations and different morphologies among populations isolated in three different lakes ‘might be considered of specific or subspecific importanc...
متن کاملA modern description of Crambionella stuhlmanni (Scyphozoa: Rhizostomeae) from St Lucia Estuary, South Africa
A new record of Crambionella stuhlmanni is reported from the east coast of South Africa. The material is described using quantitative morphological data, and mitochondrial (CO1) and nuclear (ITS-1) sequence data. The species can be diagnosed by a combination of morphological features including the presence of conical projections on velar lappets, the absence of orbicular appendages among mouthl...
متن کاملIncipient speciation of Catostylus mosaicus (Scyphozoa, Rhizostomeae, Catostylidae), comparative phylogeography and biogeography in south-east Australia
Aim Phylogeography provides a framework to explain and integrate patterns of marine biodiversity at infraand supra-specific levels. As originally expounded, the phylogeographic hypotheses are generalities that have limited discriminatory power; the goal of this study is to generate and test specific instances of the hypotheses, thereby better elucidating both local patterns of evolution and the...
متن کاملGeographic variation and behavioral evolution in marine plankton: the case of Mastigias (Scyphozoa, Rhizostomeae)
Although complex behavior in marine zooplankton has been considered strong evidence of adaptation, ethological studies of marine zooplankton generally have not employed either the comparative approach or evolutionary perspective necessary to distinguish adaptation from any alternative. Consequently, the potential for intra-specific variation in the behavior of marine zooplankton has received in...
